Description and Uses:

Lemon Essential Oil is a must for every household—fresh, vibrant, and incredibly versatile. Expressed from the peels of fresh lemons, it has a bright, clean “lemony” aroma that instantly refreshes the air, uplifts the mood, and supports a clear, energized mindset. It’s also one of the most economical essential oils, making it a go-to for everyday aromatherapy and natural home care.

Lemon oil comes from the fruit of the lemon tree, believed to be native to China, arriving in Europe by way of Persia. Later, lemon seeds were brought to Hispaniola (now Haiti/Dominican Republic) by Christopher Columbus. Today, Lemon essential oil is cultivated primarily in California and southern Europe, and is produced by cold expression of the peel. It takes roughly one ton of fresh lemons to yield about six to seven pounds of essential oil.

Traditionally, Lemon is valued for a wide range of properties and is commonly described as antimicrobial, antiseptic, astringent, diuretic, insecticidal, and tonic. Because of its cleansing reputation, Lemon is often used in:

  • Seasonal diffuser blends to freshen the air and support respiratory comfort

  • Facial toning routines for oily or congested skin (properly diluted)

  • Skincare blends for acne-prone or excessively oily skin, thanks to its astringent nature

  • Household cleansers and sprays, where it adds a bright, fresh scent and cleansing boost

Emotionally, Lemon has a cheerful, positive energy and is often used to help lift a sluggish or negative mood. It’s also a favorite for focus and concentration—including a study in Japan that reported reduced typing errors in an office setting when Lemon oil was diffused.

Lemon is also a fantastic addition to DIY cleaning routines. Add a drop or two to dish soap or general cleaners for a fresh, bright finish. For musty areas, Lemon is often paired with other strong cleansing oils in vinegar-based sprays.

Traditional Uses: cleansing and freshening diffusion, mental clarity and focus, toning skincare blends, natural home cleaning routines, seasonal support.

Recipes Using Lemon Essential Oil:

Healthy Mouth Blend

A strong, refreshing blend for oral care routines (do not swallow).

  • 10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

  • 5 drops Spearmint Essential Oil

  • 5 drops Cinnamon Essential Oil

  • 5 drops Clove Essential Oil

  • 5 drops Tea Tree or Manuka Essential Oil

  • 5 drops Lemon Essential Oil

Directions:
Blend the essential oils together and add to 8 oz of water. We recommend adding a few drops of a carrier oil (such as almond or jojoba) to help disperse the essential oils. If using only water, shake well before each use.

After brushing, add a few drops to your toothbrush and gently brush teeth and gums. Rinse and spit—DO NOT SWALLOW.
Alternatively, use as a mouth rinse after brushing. Adjust strength to your preference by diluting more or using fewer drops.

Cautions:

For external use only. Do not ingest. Always dilute properly before applying to skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children.

Citrus oils can increase sensitivity to sunlight for some individuals—use caution with topical application prior to sun exposure and perform a patch test prior to use. If pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor’s care, consult your healthcare professional before use.
