Q: What's a simple way to use essential oils to relax and which essential oil would be a good choice? Is lavender the best essential oil for relaxation?
A: If relaxation is your goal, I think Lavender is the best "single oil" choice. A simple way to use Lavender to help you sleep is to put a few drops on a tissue and tuck it under your pillow. Another way is to use an aromatherapy diffuser to get the aroma in the air - we have several types on our web site (specifically, if you want to use lavender throughout your day, consider the portable aromatherapy inhalers). Still another way is to put a few drops of Lavender essential oil in a warm (not hot) bath, swirl it around and then relax in the tub 10 to 15 minutes before bed.
Which Type of Lavender Essential Oil is Best for Relaxation?
There are many different types of lavender. Sometimes it can get a little overwhelming. My favorite lavender for relaxing and combatting stress is our Lavender Provence, which offers a velvety smooth aroma with a sweetness that's herbaceous, soft and incredibly rich. Besides smelling wonderful, Lavender Provence is high in Linalyl Acetate, which gives it outstanding calming properties and making it the ideal oil for deep relaxation.
I suggest changing to a different oil every week so that you don't habituate to a particular aroma. Read through our Essential Oil Descriptions to help you decide on others that might work for you. Rest Easy!
