Botanical Name: Cymbopogon winterianus
Origin: Indonesia
Family: Poaceae
Aroma: Grassy, fruity, herbaceous, and slightly sharp

Method of Extraction: Steam Distilled
Source: Aerial parts of the grass
Main Chemical Components: Geraniol, limonene, geranyl acetate, citronellal
Blends Well With: Bergamot, Lemon, Orange, and Lemongrass.

Description and Uses:

Citronella essential oil is a light, fresh, and uplifting oil. It's a natural deodorizer and is reputed to repel insects (mosquitos).

Traditional uses: deodorant, skin conditioner, and insect repellent.

Properties: antiseptic, bactericidal, diuretic.

Cautions:

Citronella essential oil may cause irritation in those with sensitive skin. Avoid during pregnancy.

Recipes Using Citronella Essential Oil:

Bug-Away Skin Oil:

2 tbsp of vegetable oil (we recommend soybean oil)
5 drops Cedarwood essential oil
4 drops Lemon essential oil
2 drops Geranium essential oil
1 drop Citronella essential oil

Mix these together in a plastic bottle and apply to skin to stay bug-free!

Review: Works great in my essential oil diffuser to discourage the mosquitos. In the past I had tried citronella plants to keep the mosquitoes away and didnt find the them effective. I put a few drops of oil , in a carrier oil, in my tea light candle diffuser and find this method to be very effective. The scent of the citronella essential oil is pleasant and not overpowering. Great oils, always.
