Angelica Root Essential Oil is anchoring, restorative, and strengthening. The fragrance is said to encourage appetite and support the digestive system. Angelica Root is also commonly used for respiratory conditions, making it a useful oil during the cold and flu season. Emotionally, many people find this oil to be grounding and useful for combating stress. Angelica Root may be used in massage blends, compresses, lotions, body oils and can be diffused into the air.
The Angelica plant has been cultivated for both medicinal and nutritive use since the 10th century. The name A. archangelica is thought to stem from the archangel Michael, who dreamt of its abilities to cure the plague.
There are two essential oils which come from angelica; one from the root and one from the seed. The angelica seed yields more oil and is thus less expensive, but the root oil is deeper and more concentrated.
Cautions:
Avoid Angelica Root during pregnancy, and do not use this oil on the skin before exposure to sunlight.
