Rosemary Essential Oil, Part Two

Rosemary is one of our favorite essential oils.  It’s versatile, inexpensive, powerful and, of course, has a lovely, fresh-woody aroma.   Rosemary oil is commonly used for muscular and joint pain, respiratory problems, and in skincare and hair-care blends.  Emotionally, Rosemary essential oil has a stimulating effect, and and has the reputation of assisting with memory and attention.  Gabriel Mojay describes Rosemary oil as being one of the most invigorating of the essential oils, and states that it’s fortifying for the body’s yang energy, helping to circulate Qi.

Rosemary oil is considered to be non-toxic and non-irritating, so can be used in massage blends, baths, skincare and via inhalation. Below are some recipes using Rosemary oil — we hope you enjoy experimenting with this wonderful oil!
Memory and Attention Blend:
4 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
1 drop Bay Essential Oil
1 drop Orange Essential Oil
Add the above essential oils to one tbsp carrier oil and apply to pulse points, or diffuse the straight essential oil blend into the air.  This blend is especially nice to use when studying for an exam.  Apply a few drops while studying and again when taking the exam. The association of the aroma with the material studied may very well help with memory retention.
Nasal Congestion:
2 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
2 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
2 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Use this blend in a diffuser or steam inhalant.  Add the blend to a bowl of steaming water, cover head and bowl with a towel, CLOSE EYES and breathe in through your nose for a few breaths.  Repeat two to three times and as needed.
Muscle Soreness Massage Blend:
4 drops Eucalyptus oil
4 drops Rosemary oil
4 drops Peppermint oil
2 drops Marjoram oil
2 drops Ginger oil
1 ounce carrier oil
Blend essential oils with carrier oil, shake well, and use as a massage oil for sore and stiff muscles.
Hair Conditioning Treatment Oil:hair
1 ounce olive oil or Jojoba oil
10 drops Rosemary oil
5 drops Lavender oil
Warm the oil, add the essential oils and mix well.  Using your fingers, massage the oils through your hair and scalp.  Wrap your hair with a shower cap, or towel, and leave in for 30 minutes to an hour.  Shampoo as usual.
