Mindfulness Meditation and Aromatherapy
Interested in starting a meditation practice? Mindfulness meditation is a powerful and simple (though not necessarily easy) habit which can help you enhance your physical and emotional health. Combined with aromatherapy, this ancient practice can help you focus and concentrate, deal with stress and anxiety and even help you cope with challenging health problems.
I found this great infographic from HealthCentral (below) which outlines some of the many, many benefits of meditation. Of course, reading about how great something is and actually committing to it are two different things.
Speaking from experience, it can be hard to get started on any new habit, much less one that involves sitting quietly for 10-20 minutes and trying to quiet your mind. If you can find a local group to meditate with, that’s incredibly helpful. If you can’t, or you feel you don’t have the time for that, do yourself a favor and check out this great site, Headspace.
The Headspace program offers a free series – ten minutes of guided meditation a day for ten days. It’s led by Andy Puddicombe, a former Buddhist monk who wanted to bring meditation to as many people as possible. With that in mind, he designed Headspace as ‘meditation for modern living’. His program gives you the chance to try mindfulness out for yourself and decide if its something you want to continue with. The site also has tons of information on the benefits of meditating, apps, email reminders, etc. They’ve made it as convenient as possible . . . and though I’m only on day 3, I’m loving it.
