Chamomile Essential Oil Properties and Uses
Chamomile Essential Oil is highly prized for its relaxing and soothing effects on both mind and body. Chamomile is one of the gentlest essential oils, and one of the few essential oils recommended for use with children. As an herb, Roman Chamomile has a long history of use, dating back to ancient Egypt.
Roman and German Chamomile have similar properties, although the German Chamomile has superior anti-inflammatory effects and is an excellent choice for skin problems. The German chamomile essential oil is a beautiful blue color, and the Roman a pale yellow. The Roman Chamomile has a sweeter scent than the German, and is often described as having an apple-like aroma—in fact, the Spanish name for Chamomile is ‘manzanilla’, which means ‘little apple’.
