10 Uses for Lavender Essential Oil
A lot of people own Lavender oil, but don’t necessarily know how incredibly versatile and useful this oil can be. We’ve collected here ten favorite uses for Lavender essential oil that we hope you’ll put to the test in your own life.
Alone or combined with other oils, Lavender is a must-have for every household.
Favorite Lavender Oil Uses and Recipes:
#1 Lavender for Colds and Flu
Use Lavender to relieve the body aches that can come with colds and flu. Blend 4 drops of lavender and 2 drops of marjoram in a tablespoon of carrier oil (such as sweet almond or olive oil) and massage gently into and around your joints.
#2 Immune Boosting Diffuser Blend
Add equal parts Tea Tree oil and Lavender to a diffuser to help fight the spread of infection. When someone in your household starts sneezing or feeling generally puny, get out the essential oils!
#3 Aromatherapy Steam Inhalation
Inhalations of lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus and lemon may help clear a stuffy head and nose and fight infection with respiratory infections.
Combine 2 parts lavender essential oil to one part of any of the other suggested oils and add 1 to 3 drops of this blend into a bowl of steaming water. Cover your head with a towel, close your eyes and inhale the aromatic steam a few times. Repeat every 3-4 hours or as needed.
#4 Balance Your Emotions
Lavender has remarkable balancing effects on the central nervous system and is a wonderful choice for those suffering from anxiety, trouble sleeping and nervous exhaustion. It help soothe the nervous system and slow down the racing thoughts that can accompany stress.
To enhance Lavender’s abilities to uplift the mood and combat depression, blend it with energizing citrus and floral oils. A beautiful and balancing blend for nervous exhaustion can be made with lavender, frankincense, and petitgrain.
#5 Ease Menstrual Cramps
For menstrual cramps try equal parts of lavender, bergamot, roman chamomile and half as much peppermint applied as a warm compress. To make, add 5-8 drops of your blend in a bowl of warm water, add a clean cloth, wring out and apply over the abdomen.
You could also make a soothing massage oil. Add 5-8 drops of your blend to two tablespoons of a carrier oil (olive, grapeseed, almond, etc) and massage gently ease cramping..
#6 Headache Relief
A single drop of lavender gently massaged into the temples or at the base of the skull can really help ease headaches (be careful around your eyes!) Combining 1 drop of lavender with 1 drop of peppermint can also be effective.
A wonderful massage blend for babies (6 months and over) is one drop Roman Chamomile, 1 drop Lavender, 1 drop Geranium diluted in 2 tablespoons Sweet Almond Oil. This will make both you and your baby happy!
#8 Bug Bites
Put a drop of Lavender oil on a bee sting or insect bite to stop itching reduce swelling. This may seem to easy to be effective, but it works beautifully!
#9 Fight Fatigue
Add 5 drops of lavender oil to a hot foot bath and relax while your feet soak. This is such an effective way to take advantage of the balancing effects of Lavender oil. You can add a drop of peppermint for extra vim and vigor!
#10 Fight Wrinkles and Dry Skin
Beat wrinkles and dry, tired skin with your very own easy facial elixir. Add 15 drops of lavender oil to 2 Tbsp of Rosehip Seed oil. If you have Tamanu on hand, add a few drops of that as well. Lovely!
