Description and Uses: Catnip essential oil has traditionally been used as a bug repellent, and this Canadian catnip is much more potent than the U.S. variety for repelling insects. There was some interesting research done at Iowa State University which showed that Nepetalactone (which gives catnip its characteristic odor), was ten times more effective than the popular insect repellent DEET.
Here's a home-made bug repellent recipe to try:

Insect Repellent Spray
In an 8oz spray bottle combine:
5oz water or witch hazel
2oz aloe vera gel
10 drops catnip essential oil
10 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil
5 drops geranium essential oil
10 Lavender essential oil
20 drops Neem Oil (optional)
Combine ingredients and shake well. Keep away from eyes!
