Aromatherapy Grade / Therapeutic Grade:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. ........ can you tell me what "Aromatherapy Grade Oils" (aka therapeutic grade) are? There is no such thing in the trade and it actually is discussed on various lists and it said to be a marketing hype thing that real aromatherapists ignore. What is your slant on it. Who tells you that the oils are "aromatherapy grade"? - U.K.

A. We find that if you are looking at the therapeutic properties of essential oils, then there is often a very real difference between one and another. That is why we always review the MS/GS reports for each oil before making a purchase. No one tells us that these are are "aromatherapy grade" or therapeutic grade. This is the decision we make and the label we apply. "Aromatherapy Grade" or "Therapeutic Grade" may be considered by some to be marketing hype but, in fact, it is not. We use the terms "therapeutic grade" or "aromatherapy grade" (same thing) to differentiate our essential oils from other essential oil "stuff". We use the terms to mean that we consider our essential oils to be of excellent quality and suitable for therapeutic applications. There is no official grading system other than perhaps the use of the term "food grade" or pharmaceutical grade, which often denote oils inferior to those sought by aromatherapists. You could say that all essential oils are alike. You could also say that all wines are alike. I think there is often quite a lot of difference between one wine and another and one essential oil and another.

Some oils for sale on the market are adulterated and some have had certain components removed or come from the second or third distillation of the plant material. We consider such oils to be inferior and definitely not therapeutic grade. All our oils are pure, unadulterated, complete and from first run distillations (unless otherwise plainly stated).

We purchase our essential oils either directly from growers or through known sourcing agents (people who know the oils and the growers). We check the material data sheets on each oil and the gas chromatographs to be sure they have the properties we're looking for. We only select the oils that we feel have the "right" properties. That's what we mean by aromatherapy grade. Is it hype? I don't think so but some might. By the way, we could go through a lot less hassle and buy almost any of our EOs at significantly lower prices but then we'd just be selling stuff. That's not our goal. We want to provide the best essential oils that we can find. Note: to read Dr. Power's article on Quality click Reference.

Aromatherapy & Aspects of Consciousness:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. I have never utilized aromatherapy but would like to lead a guided meditation using the sense of smell to lead a group through 7 aspects of consciousness. I would like to describe them below, and see if you can suggest some aromas and sources of smell that could be passed around from person to person in a group as we go through this experience. If you have any products, for example in your starter kit that would fit the bill for each of the following 7 things, please point them out to me.
1. Loving kindness
2. Strength or Courage
3. Beauty or Balance or Harmony
4. Passion or Eternity
5. Victory or Order
6. Foundation or Changing Moods
7, The Divine Presence in Everyday Life.
Thanks, R.W.

A. Hello R., What a great idea. Below are some thoughts. Please excuse the delay in responding to you, I've been involved with other projects and gotten behind on my correspondence.
Essential Oils have a powerful effect on states of consciousness. There are many ways to diffuse them into the room - let us know if you want some suggestions. You will get the best results if your participants have a break between the presentation of each blend - leave the room & air it out - otherwise, the scents will all just start blending together and some people may get headaches. If you cannot structure for breaks, you may want to come up with one blend to use throughout.
I love to do this kind of stuff and will be glad to work with you - we can customize a starter kit or do blends for you - whatever you want. Also, feel free to call - I can probably get a better feel for your needs and give you more information if we talk.
1. Loving kindness - our Heart Chakra Blend, or combination using Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Rose or Cypress.
2. Strength or Courage - a blend of Cardamom, Frankincense and Cedarwood Atlas.
3. Beauty or Balance or Harmony - a blend of Lavender, Bergamot & Ylang Ylang (also Geranium, Rose, Clary Sage & Mandarin).
4. Passion or Eternity - Rose, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Clove & Bay.
5. Victory or Order - Cedarwood, Sweet Orange, Rosemary (small amount).
6. Foundation or Changing Moods - Cedarwood, Vetiver, Ginger, Petitgrain.
7. The Divine Presence in Everyday Life - Neroli, Frankincense, Cedarwood, Juniper or our Crown Chakra Blend.
Best Regards, Joie Power, Ph.D.

Aromatherapy and the Elderly:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. I am an activity Director at a nursing home and I am offering an aromatherapy group to our residents. I am looking to purchase more products, but I am unsure of what products work better with the elderly. I am wondering if you could send me any information that you may have on your products and any scientific research that shows the benefits of aromatherapy use with the elderly. I would also like a few samples of your product if possible. Thank you very Much - J. K.

A. Dear J., I am always very glad to see people involved in elder-care getting interested in aromatherapy because this is an area in which essential oils have a great deal to offer in terms of improving quality of life. There are two books that have excellent chapters on this topic. They are Clinical Aromatherapy in Nursing by Jane Buckle, and Aromatherapy for Health Professionals by Shirley and Len Price. Both have good research summaries and lots of practical suggestions. The areas in which essential oils have been shown to have especially good applications for care of the elderly include: sleep disturbances, dementia, constipation, skin ulcers, and osteoarthritis. If you want to start slowly, I suggest that you try working with Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) to help with insomnia, restlessness, aggressiveness, and mild pain. One of the best ways to use lavender with elderly patients is to give it in a gentle hand and arm massage. Put one or two drops of lavender in a teaspoon of carrier oil (grapeseed oil is gentle and will not cause problems for people with nut allergies) and spend about ten or fifteen minutes very gently massaging this mixture into the person's hand and forearm. Of course, you can massage on the shoulders, back, legs etc and may want to if there is pain in these areas but a hand massage is so easy to do because the person doesn't have to remove any clothing and can just be seated in their chair or bed. Another option is to diffuse lavender into the air. If you do this, use a small fan diffuser in the patient's room and put only two or three drops of lavender on it. A fan diffuser has no burning candle (which of course must not be used in a care facility) and also has the advantage of allowing you to control the dose exactly. There are larger professional model diffusers that can put essential oil into larger, communal spaces but with these you cannot control the dosage as well.
There is so much more that I could suggest for your setting and I would be happy to talk with you on the phone if you like. I hope that you will be able to get the books also. Feel free to give call if you want to talk/brain-storm. 1-800-897-8330. Best Regards, Joie Power, Ph.D.

Arthritis:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. We sell your products at our store. A customer asks... What is good for arthritis topically? What can she put into a bath to help relieve the pain and stiffness? Thank-you for your time. Sincerely, S.J. @ Silver Heart Int'l

A. Dear S. - Thanks for your question....
Essential oils can be used in a number of ways to help ease cases of both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid outbursts. Detoxifying oils like Cypress, Juniper and Lemon can be used in baths to help eliminate toxins. Pain killing oils like Chamomile, Lavender and Peppermint can also be used in a bath or combined with a carrier oil to make an ointment. (note: some people are allergic to chamomile - use no more than 2 drops in a bath). Essential oil of Marjoram, Black Pepper, or Ginger can be added to carrier oils and massaged around joints to help increase circulation (don't use Ginger or Black Pepper in a bath).
When using Essential Oils in a both, you can use a single oils or 2 or 3. Use no more than 5 drops total and no more than 3 drops of any single oil (but, no more than 2 drops of Chamomile or Pepper in a bath). Mix the oils with a teaspoon of honey or cream before adding to the bath and be careful not to get in eyes. For an ointment, add a total of 2 drops EO to one teaspoon of carrier / vegetable oil (such as Sweet Almond Oil) and apply to effected joints 2 or 3 times daily. We also make a premixed arthritis formula that you can order for her.
Note: Whenever heat is applied to a painful, stiff joint it is VERY important to gently move the joint as much as possible immediately afterward. Otherwise the heat will cause congestion which will make things worse rather than better.
In my experience, dietary factors are very important in arthritis, so help your customer check out some references for this. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions. - Best Regards, Joie Power, Ph.D.

Asthma / Sinus Infection:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. What do aromatherapists recommend for someone who has asthma an chronic sinus infection?

A. The presence of asthma in a person complicates the issue of using essential oils to help ease a sinus infection. Aromatherapists traditionally recommend steam inhalations of antibacterial and antiviral essential oils, such as lavender and eucalyptus, for sinus infection. However inhaling essential oils can bring on asthma attacks in those who suffer from this condition. For this reason, you often find that aromatherapists will not apply essential oils at all to those with asthma or, in some cases, will only apply oils to the bottom of the feet, where they will be absorbed into the skin but not produce much stimulation of the respiratory system. Unfortunately, this method is not ideal for sinus infection.
Holistic practitioners have many ideas about chronic sinus infection and/or asthma, however. One idea is that both of these problems may arise from food allergies. Another is that exposure to toxic fumes or other environmental factors (such as mold) may be involved. Even when allergies are not involved, diet may play a role. For example, anyone with chronic sinus infection should eliminate all dairy products (except live yogurt), as dairy products encourage excessive production of mucous. It is also important to drink plenty of water to keep mucous thin and flowing.
If you want to consider other holistic approaches, you should take a look at Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 2nd edition by J.F. Balch, MD & P.A. Bach, CNC (Avery Publishing). Your local bookstore should be able to order it. This book has good sections on sinus infection and asthma and will give you an overview of herbal and nutritional approaches.
With any serious health situation, such as asthma or any kind of infection, it is important to maintain appropriate follow-up with office visits to a health care practitioner. Joie Power, Ph.D.

Camellia Oil:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. can you send me all your info on camellia carrier oil for it is very hard to come by esp. what percent dilution is used. thank you very much. Dee

A. Dear Dee: Thanks for your interest in aromatherapy and for your question concerning camellia oil. Camellia is a light oil, suitable for facial use. It is readily absorbed and leaves no oily residue. Its main constituents are linoleic, linolenic, and oleic fatty acids. Because pure camellia oil is so extremely expensive, it is generally sold as an infused oil, infused with maize oil. We carry infused camellia oil... Best Regards, Joie Power, Ph.D.

Cancer:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. Dr. .... I am sending this to ask about essential oil treatment for breast cancer. My wife which is 43 years old is fighting stage four breast cancer. She has exhausted all chemo drugs that are available over the last seven years and has been told that she is not a candidate for any experimental drugs. The cancer is in her liver and she is starting to retain water due to the loss of liver function. Any information that you might have would be appreciated.

A...... I appreciate what a difficult time this is for you and your wife. Essential oils have been used by aromatherapists to help ease some of the symptoms that cancer patients experience but unfortunately they do not provide any direct treatment of the cancer itself.
However, there are many plants that have been used by herbalists in the treatment of cancer. Since I don't have any direct knowledge of anyone who has ever been "cured" by any of these herbs, I cannot offer any opinion on their effects but I thought that you might be interested in the following statements which are quoted directly from the book Clinical Aromatherapy in Nursing by Jane Buckle (published in 1997 by Arnold Press, London):

"The main orthodox treatment for cancer are surgery, radiation and chemotherapeutic agents. These treatments have saved lives, but sometimes the treatments have been hard to endure. However, plant materials have been used to treat malignant diseases for centuries. I would be impossible to list them all, and most of them have involved whole plants. It is fascinating how the same plants kept being cited all over the world. For example, having discovered that Sanguinaria canadenis (bloodwort) had been used by the Native Americans, Dr. Fell completed a study of 25 case of breast cancer at the Middlesex Hospital in 1857. He states that all of his cases went into remission. -150- However, it is difficult to establish if this really happened, although Sanguinaria has a long history of use in Russia for the treatment of cancer.-149- It is well known that the Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus) contains several alkaloids which have been useful in treating cancer, including vinblastine and vincristine.-148- However, more recently, an infused oil (Centella asiatica) called Gotu Kola or South African Pennywort, has featured in an in-vitro study of cultured cancer cells. Centella appeared to destroy 100% of the cultured cancer cells. When the study was conducted on mice, Centella appeared to double the lifespan of mice with tumors. In both instances Centella had virtually no toxic effect on normal human lymphocytes.-151- Centella asiatica is an infused oil (phytol). Phytols are often used in aromatherapy, and are supplied by many essential oils distributors."

-151- Foster, S. 1995: Anti-cancer Effects of Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica). HerbalGram 36, 17-18.

Since it sounds from your letter that your wife has run out of conventional treatment options, you may want to discuss nonconventional options with her physician. I do not recommend that anyone with cancer leave the care of their physician. Even when conventional treatments have been exhausted it is important to continue working with a qualified oncologist. However, there are an increasing number of "holistic" physicians who are knowledgeable about herbal alternative and you may want to see if you can consult with such a physician in your area.
Finally, essential oils can be very helpful to some people for feelings of anxiety and depression (Neroli & Lavender), nausea (Peppermint), Radiation Burns (Lavender) and other cancer related symptoms. I would be glad to speak with your wife's oncologist about incorporating aromatherapy and other holistic approaches into her care. There is no charge for these services so don't hesitate to let me know if I can help. If you prefer to communicate over the phone you can call. - Joie Power, Ph.D.

Candles:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. Do you have any tips on making essential oils candles?

A. We tried crafting a few candles to sell on our web site but can't get the "candle part" right. But we did get the essential oil part right. Here's what we found: Use the best essential oils you can afford (like ours). Combine (1 part to 5 with Jojoba) - this seems to enhance the fragrance and help with the mixing of the essential oils with the wax. Add the essential oils at the last possible stage. Use as little heat as possible in this last stage (heat causes the essential oils to evaporate). Seal your candles as soon as possible (essential oils continue to slowly evaporate over time. Note: Synthetic fragrances will smell stronger and last longer but they are certainly not therapeutic and may even be harmful (they give me a headache).

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. I would like to ask for your recommendation on what carrier oil and essential oils would be good for someone with carpel tunnel.... - M.

A. Dear M, ... Thank you for your question concerning essential oils. Valerie Ann Worwood, in her book, The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy, recommends the following formula to help relieve the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:
Marjoram - 10 drops
Lavender - 10 drops
Eucalyptus - 10 drops
Diluted in 2 teaspoons vegetable oil and applied to hands, arms and shoulders twice a day. You could use Sweet Almond oil, Grapeseed oil, or our Base (S. Almond + Grapeseed + Jojoba) as your vegetable oil. Another reference which has possibly useful information for you concerning Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 2nd edition, by James F. Balch and Phyliss Balch. I hope this information will be helpful to you. - Joie Power, Ph.D.

Chemotherapy:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. Dear Dr. Power I have heard that aromatherapy can be very helpful to people who are undergoing chemotherapy. Do you have any information on this? I would appreciate it! Thank you, M.

A. Dear M., Thank your for your question concerning chemotherapy.... Aromatherapists disagree as to whether or not essential oils should be used during or soon after chemotherapy. Patricia Davis, in her book Aromatherapy an A to Z, states that essential oils should not be used at all during or soon after chemotherapy. Her book is written for a wide audience and her cautious approach may reflect this. Shirley Price and Jane Buckle in their aromatherapy reference books written specifically for health care practitioners indicate that there are some essential oils that may be carefully used in some cases to help relieve side effects of chemotherapy. However, this type of intervention requires that a knowledgeable aromatherapist work closely with the patient under the direction of the patient's oncologist. I so wish that I could give you some simple suggestions that you could use on your own to help with chemotherapy but I cannot because this would be irresponsible. However, I would be happy to speak with your oncologist to see if any aromatherapy interventions would help you manage the chemotherapy side effects. Please feel free to give your doctor my number. There is no charge on my part for consultation of this type. J.P.

Chicken Pox:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. Hi, Sorry to bother you, just a quick query! I had chicken pox 3 weeks ago and the red marks just don't seem to be fading is there any essential oil I could use to help quicken up the healing process (to be used on face). in general i used to say cut myself and within a week it was usually gone, now if i were to cut myself or something 6 weeks later the marks could still be seen (I'm 31). Any Advice? Thank you - T. M.

A.Hello T.,
Thanks for your interest in aromatherapy. Here is a formula that Patricia Davis gives in her book, Aromatherapy, An A-Z:
Tea Tree Oil - 6 drops
Bergamot - 10 drops
Chamomile - 10 drops
Lavender - 10 drops
Witch Hazel - 50 ml (a bit less than 2 oz.)
Distilled water - 50 ml
Put all in a bottle. Shake well before each use and dab it on the affected areas. She says that this is especially useful in the latter stages of chicken pox since it speeds healing and reduces the risk of scarring from the blisters.
If you are allergic to any ingredient, leave it out and use the others as directed - don't double up on any if you leave one out. It would be a good idea to do two consecutive patch tests on a small area before you use it on bigger areas. When using Bergamot essential oil, use only FCF Bergamot (furo-coumarin free) and avoid prolonged exposure of your skin of the sun for at least 12 hours after application. Bergamot on the skin can greatly increases the risk of sunburn, especially if it is not FCF. We sell only FCF Bergamot. If you cannot keep your skin from exposure to the sun after use, leave the Bergamot out of the formula and use 5 drops of Eucalyptus in its place.
Please be sure you use only high quality pure essential oils. We can make this formula for you if you wish or you can purchase the individual ingredients - we stock all but the witch hazel but can get it within 2 days.
Of course, essential oils should not be used to treat a medical condition without your physician's approval. I hope this information is helpful to you. Let me know how you are doing.
Best Regards, Joie Power, Ph.D.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome:                 TOP                 On-Line Shopping Catalog
Q. I loved your article on the uses of aromatherapy oils for CFS. Do you have any other recipes for that aside from bath soaks? Inhalants, diffuser, etc? Thanks, A.

A. Dear A, I'm so glad you enjoyed the CFS article.... There are many, many ways to use essential oils to support persons with Chronic Fatigue and you can probably find many good formulas by looking in the indexes of books available in your area. If you liked the bath formula that I have in the article, you could also use it either as a massage oil or in a diffuser. For a massage oil, put 3 drops Lavender, 2 drops Petitgrain and 1 drop Frankincense in 2 to 3 tsps of carrier oils, such as grapeseed oil or our own massage base (S. Almond + Grapeseed + Jojoba). For the diffuser, make an essential oil blend in the same proportions but use only the essential oils and not the carrier oils. Put a few drops of this blend in your diffuser (for some diffusers, you would be putting the drops of blend in a basin filled with water) - follow the instructions for your diffuser.
In general, essential oil blends used to comfort those with muscle pain or weakness or muscle fatigue need to be applied directly to the skin, either through massage or a bath. However, for support of persons with symptoms of depression, insomnia, poor concentration and similar problems, diffusers and simple inhalations from the bottle can be very helpful. Here are some suggestions for blends: To relax and sleep better - Blend essential oils of Marjoram and Roman Chamomile in equal proportions.
For concentration - Blend 2 parts Lavender to 1 part Bergamot
For support during depression - Blend 2 parts Geranium to 1 part Sweet Orange
Also, Shirley Price, in her book Aromatherapy for Health Professions (published by Churchhill Livingstone, 1999), reports on a case study in which a 25 year old mom with chronic fatigue was greatly helped by using the following formula for a massage oil which was used regularly for full body massage.
Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) - 2 drops
Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) - 2 drops
Chamaemelum nobile / Anthemis nobilis (Roman Chamomile) - 2 drops
Vetiveria zizanioides (Vetiver) - 1 drop
in 20 ml of carrier oil (such as grapeseed or our base).
I hope this is helpful. - J.P. PS: See Dr. Power's article on CFS at: Chronic Fatigue Article.

Q. Re: ??? / CFS. Would you blend lets say 2 drops of one oil and 2 drops of another and then apply it? Thanks for the clarification, I am a newbie!!!

A. A. Except for a few very special applications, all essential oils must be diluted before being applied to the skin. So, if you were going to use the formula below*, you'd pour 2 to 3 teaspoons of carrier oil into a saucer or bowl. Then you would add the number of drops of the different oil as indicated (3 Lavender + 2 Petitgrain + 1 Frankincense). Swirl the oils around to mix them and then massage into the skin.
*CFS Formula: For a massage oil, put 3 drops Lavender, 2 drops Petitgrain and 1 drop Frankincense in 2 to 3 tsps of carrier oils, such as grapeseed oil or our own massage base (S. Almond + Grapeseed + Jojoba).
Hope this explanation is a bit clearer. Feel free to let me know if I can be of further help. - J.P.

Comment: Dear Ivan, Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I love your website and I plan to visit often. I look forward to purchasing some of your items and learning more about aromatherapy from you. - E.P./'03

Comment: ....since aromatherapy has become such a buzzword, many companies have increased the price of their essential oil lines without regard for the quality. It is so challenging to find true therapeutic grade essential oils, as the market is flooded with diluted or otherwise altered oils; or worse, fragrance oils being sold as "essential oils". I was so pleased to discover SomaTherapy essential oils by Dreaming Earth Botanicals, as they are reasonably priced and excellent quality! These are the only oils I feel confident recommending to my clients and students. Education is extremely important in the safe use of essential oils, and the Dreaming Earth website is filled with accurate and easy-to-understand information. It is a wonderful resource whether you are just getting your feet wet or you've studied aromatherapy for years. I have been an aromatherapist for a decade, and I always find some new and useful information on their site or in their newsletter. As a teacher, I am also always pleased to note that the information posted about essential oils on the website is correct and up-to-date. It does my heart good to see an essential oil company which actually cares about informing its customers! Keep up the great work. M.S. / Lexington, KY. /'03

Q. I am searching for an essential oil/blend for use in aromatherapy. - one intended to inspire my creativity, open my perceptions, enhance my focus, calm my soul. If you have an oil blend, great. Also, please recommend individuals that I could blend on my own and would you recommend a ratio?
Please make your recommendations and forward pricing, bulk purchase would be considered. Thank you - Patty

A. Dear Patty, Thanks for your inquiry. I love to blend oils for the kind of use you have described. I am a musician and always experiment with essential oils to open me up creatively. - Here are some blends that I have used and loved:
#1
     Ylang Ylang - 2 dr
     Bergamot FCF - 2 dr
     Lavender, Provence - 2 dr
     Frankincense - 2 dr
     Cedarwood Atlas - 2 dr
     Rose, Otto - 2 dr
#2
     Neroli - 2 dr
     Clary Sage - 2 dr
     Ylang Ylang - 1 dr
     Cedarwood Atlas - 1 dr
     Vetiver - 2 dr
     Rose, Otto - 1 dr
     Cinnamon - 1 dr
This is deeply calming and relaxing and could possibly make you sleepy but I just love it.
Any of these blends could be put into a diffuser or bath or used as a massage. The proportions given are for one use (5 or 6 drops in your diffuser - or, dilute 5 or 6 drops with a tablespoon of milk and add to the bath - or, for massage, dilute with a tablespoon of carrier oil).
Here are some suggestions for individual oils that you might want to try blending on your own:
Focus - Thyme linalol, Fennel, Cypress, Cinnamon, Ylang Ylang, Lemon, Bergamot FCF, Cedarwood Atlas, Juniper, Ginger & Rosemary.
Creativity - Bergamot, Frankincense, Neroli, Rose Otto, Cypress, Lemon, Geranium, Jasmine, Clove, Sandalwood & Juniper
Awareness - Roman Chamomile, Neroli, Frankincense, Juniper & Rose Otto. Calming - Clary Sage, Neroli, Ylang Ylang, Mandarin, Vetiver, Roman Chamomile, Frankincense & Lavender Provence.
There's no real rule about proportions except that you usually get a better blend if you use fairly similar amounts of the different oils. When using ginger and cinnamon, be aware that they are skin irritants and don't use more than 1 or 2 drops of either in a bath or massage. For a bath, again (as above), use 5 or 6 drops total of several essential oils (or 4 drops total of any one oil) and dilute it with a little milk to help it disperse better in the water. For massage, use 4 to 6 drops total essential oil (one or a blend of several) and dilute with a tablespoon of good quality carrier oil.
We carry all the above oils, of true aromatherapy quality, in stock plus the carrier oils (but not the milk - smile) and sell all in sizes from ˝oz (15ml) to quarts and gallons. We sell both retail and wholesale plus we give healing arts practitioners a discount. Do let us know if we can be of further assistance.
Best Regards, Joie Power, Ph.D.

Q. Hello Dr Joie Power, I have been enjoying my travels through your web page for the past hour or so. I think you might be the company I have been searching for. My name is F.G. and I am a nail technician located in Australia. I am interested in formulating a cuticle oil range for clients and retail. I have found most of the cuticle oils in my industry to be foreign owned. I thought It would be nice if we had our own Aussie brand (using US oils). I have read a fair bit of info on oils but can't seem to find anywhere. If certain oils can or can't be mixed and of what ratio they should be mixed.
Could you Please help me design a recipe for a great cuticle oil. I was thinking of a mixture of:
     Sesame oil
     Sweet almond
     Arnica
     Borage
     Evening primrose
     Jojoba
But what ratio? Should I use equal amounts or do I need to concentrate more on one particular oil. Your help would be so greatly appreciated..... I'm so eagerly awaiting for your reply. Best wishes F.G.

A. Hi F.G., .....Below are my recommendation for percentages. Also consider a little Tea Tree oil to help prevent infection and nail fungus (1 drop tea tree per 2 teaspoons of your "carrier" mix).
     15% - Sesame oil
     65% - Sweet almond
     5% - Arnica
     0% - Borage
     5% - Evening primrose
     10% - Jojoba
Best Regards, Joie Power, Ph.D.
