Description and Uses: Ylang Ylang Essential Oil is steam distilled from the freshly picked flowers of the Cananga tree. There are different grades of Ylang Ylang, determined by the time of distillation. The "Extra" comes from the first phase of distillation, and is often considered to be the highest quality, prized for its use in aromatherapy and perfumery.
Ylang Ylang is an intoxicating oil with a heady, floral aroma and is widely used by the perfumery and cosmetics industries. Fittingly, the name Ylang ylang means 'flower of flowers.' Sensual and exotic, ylang ylang is renowned for its aphrodisiac properties, and is a common component in many aphrodisiac blends.
Ylang essential oil can help to calm feelings of tension and stress and balance strong emotions. Valerie Ann Worwood, in her wonderful book "The Fragrant Mind", describes Ylang's character as euphoric, sensuous, stimulating and uplifting. She recommends it to help counteract depression, anxiety, frustration, resentment, jealousy and shyness, and to support the emotions of self-confidence, joy, enthusiasm and warmth.
For the skin, Ylang oil is ideal for both oily and dry skin and a lovely addition to a hair rinse [2 drops in rinse water].
Traditional use: perfume, aphrodisiac.
